#ShieldEuros Opening Weekend
After a frantic last week of entries to the #ShieldEuros, we headed into the start of the tournament with huge excitement.
It all got underway on Friday night as host-nation, and favourites, France defeated underdogs Romania with an 89th minute goal. And those who were drawn France in our sweepstake were quick to take to social media to praise Dimitri Payet for the winner.
The buzz on our Twitter feed continued throughout the weekend. Switzerland took all 3 points against Albania - not to the delight of everyone - before home-nation Wales beat Slovakia 2-1 in a tightly-contested game.
Turkey faced Croatia in the Sunday afternoon kick-off. A wonder strike early on from Luka Modric sealed the win for Croatia as those with Turkey tried to find the funny side of the defeat.
Then it was the time for World Champions Germany to begin their campaign against Ukraine. An end-to-end game produced a goal early on for the Germans before a goal-line clearance and offisde flag kept the lead at 1-0 going into the latter stages of the game. As Ukraine pressed for the elusive goal that would draw them level, Germany broke on the counter-attack to secure the victory.
